Why One-to-One for Italian

Italian is forgiving early and demanding later. Pronunciation is largely regular, so beginners make quick visible progress — then hit subjunctive mood, pronoun combinations and the passato remoto, where self-study tends to stall.

A tutor is most valuable at exactly that transition. They can also give you the thing books cannot: conversation at natural speed, which in Italian moves quickly and elides heavily.

Exam Preparation

CILS and CELI are the main CEFR-aligned certifications, with PLIDA as a third option. If you are applying for Italian citizenship by descent or residence, note that a B1 certificate is commonly required — check the current rule for your route, as requirements have changed in recent years.

Regional Variation

Standard Italian is what you will be taught and what examinations test, but regional accents and dialects vary substantially — Neapolitan, Sicilian and Venetian are distinct enough to be considered separate languages by some linguists. If you are moving somewhere specific, a tutor from that region is worth seeking out once you have a foundation.
