European or Brazilian? Decide First
This matters more in Portuguese than in almost any other language. European and Brazilian Portuguese differ in pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and even the pronouns used in everyday speech — European Portuguese reduces unstressed vowels heavily, making it noticeably harder for beginners to parse.
Speakers understand each other, but learning the wrong one for your purpose means real rework. Tutors state which they teach, so choose before booking rather than after.
Why One-to-One for Portuguese
Portuguese has far less learning material available than Spanish or French, and much of what exists is Brazilian. If you need European Portuguese, a tutor is often the only practical route to good material and correction.
Exam and Residency Requirements
CIPLE is the A2 examination commonly required for Portuguese citizenship, and CELPE-Bras is the Brazilian equivalent for university and professional purposes. Requirements change, so confirm the current standard for your route before setting a target level.
