Michigan Property & Casualty Insurance Continuing Education
Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services approved online continuing education for property and casualty producers. Approved provider ID# 0991, with completions reported to the state and no hidden fees.
Michigan CE Requirements
- Resident producers and solicitors: 24 hours per review period, including 3 hours of ethics. The remaining 21 hours may be taken in any line of authority.
- Carry-over: up to 12 excess hours apply to the following term, but ethics hours carry as general credit only.
- Repeats: a course counts once per two-year term. Retaking it earns no further credit.
- No requirement for limited life, crop-hail, travel and baggage, title, credit products, or limited lines property and casualty.
Your Review Date Is the First Day of Your Birth Month
Not the last day, as in most states — Michigan uses the first, in odd or even years according to your birth year. Your first review date is printed in the lower left-hand corner of your licence, and must allow at least 12 months; if it would fall sooner, it is pushed to the next review date two years later.
Licences are perpetual as long as CE is met by each review date, so there is no renewal application to file.
Miss It and Your Licence Is Suspended, Not Just Late
Fail to complete CE on time and your licence is suspended for 90 days or until you comply. During suspension you may continue servicing existing customers but cannot transact any new business. Miss the 90 days and the licence is terminated — reinstatement within a year means completing the CE, reapplying for licensure and paying the fees again.
In both cases every carrier you are appointed with is notified of your status.
Exams Must Be Proctored
Michigan requires an impartial proctor with no financial interest in your result to monitor every closed-book final exam. Pass mark is 70% with unlimited retakes. Arrange the proctor before you start rather than at the end.
Flood Training
A one-time three-hour course is required before selling flood insurance, meeting FEMA and National Flood Insurance Program requirements.
Non-Residents
Michigan is reciprocal with all other states. Comply with your home state's CE requirements and you automatically comply with Michigan's.
