Course Content

The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (NGC) is divided into two units: NG1 and NG2 which is a practical risk assessment.

NG1 – Health and Safety Management

  1. Why we should manage workplace health and safety
  2. How health and safety management systems work and what they look like
  3. Managing risk – understanding people and processes
  4. Health and safety measuring and monitoring

NG2 – Risk Assessment

  1. Physical and psychological health
  2. Musculoskeletal health
  3. Chemical and biological agents
  4. General workplace issues
  5. Work equipment
  6. Fire
  7. Electricity

There are two assessments which must both be passed to achieve the NEBOSH NGC:

The NG1 exam is open book, remotely completed and submitted via the NEBOSH exam portal. You have 24 hours from 11am (UK time) on exam day to complete and submit your exam, with a pass mark of 45 marks. A credit will be recognised with pass marks of between 65 and 74 and a distinction will be given with a pass of 75+.

Following completion of the open book assessment, there is a short closing interview of approximately 15 minutes which can be undertaken via video call. This is to confirm that the work submitted was completed by you and that you had no assistance.

The NG2 is a practical risk assessment based on a workplace which can be completed remotely and submitted via email to a deadline. This exam will be a pass or fail.

You must successfully pass both units to achieve the certificate.

Your NEBOSH General Certificate will be sent to you via recorded delivery by Target Zero approximately 12 weeks after successful completion of the course.
