BOHS Asbestos and Water Hygiene Qualifications at Six Centres or Online
NATAS covers the technical end of hazardous substances — BOHS P402, P405 and P901, the professional qualifications held by surveyors, consultants and water hygiene duty holders rather than site operatives. P402 Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings, in the classroom at Birmingham, Leeds, Watford and Edinburgh, or live online. This is the qualification an asbestos surveyor should hold: sampling strategy, building inspection and report writing. BOHS P405 — managing asbestos in buildings
P405 Management of Asbestos in Buildings, including asbestos removal, at Birmingham, Leeds and Watford or live online. It sits above P402 in scope rather than replacing it — P402 is about finding and recording asbestos, P405 about managing it in place and overseeing removal work. Between them they cover the professional side of the Control of Asbestos Regulations.
IATP non-licensed asbestos removal (Category B)
IATP Non-Licensed Asbestos Removal Training at Birmingham, Doncaster and Sheffield. This is Category B work — removal that does not require a licence but does require trained operatives, correct controls and notification for notifiable non-licensed work. It is a practical classroom course, distinct from awareness, and requires annual refresher training to stay valid.
Asbestos awareness and duty to manage
By e-learning: NATAS Asbestos Awareness for anyone whose work might disturb it, Duty to Manage Asbestos for those holding the Regulation 4 duty over premises, and the Non-Licensed Asbestos Works Refresher — the annual requirement for operatives doing Category B work. Awareness needs refreshing annually too, and covers recognising asbestos and stopping, not working with it.
Legionella and water hygiene — including BOHS P901
BOHS P901 Management and Control of Building Hot and Cold Water Services runs live online — the professional water hygiene qualification, and a genuine rarity in this catalogue. Below it sit two e-learning courses:
Legionella and Legionnaires Disease Awareness, and Legionella Management for Duty Holders. ACOP L8 places a duty on anyone responsible for premises to assess and control legionella risk in water systems — frequently overlooked in buildings with low occupancy or seasonal use, where stagnation is exactly the problem.

P402, Category B or awareness — which do I need?
Three different people. Awareness is for tradespeople who might encounter asbestos and need to recognise it and stop — it authorises nothing. IATP Category B training is for operatives who will actually remove non-licensed materials, and needs annual refreshing. P402 is a professional surveying qualification for those producing survey reports. Buying awareness where removal training is needed is the mistake that matters, because it leaves people doing the work untrained for it.
