CITB Health and Safety Awareness (HSA) – Assisted Learning
This 1-day course provides an introduction to health, safety, welfare and environmental issues for anyone about to work, or who has just started working, in the construction industry. This Assisted Learning version is designed for candidates with a learning difficulty, a disability, or for whom English is not a first language, and who would benefit from extra support in a relaxed, understanding environment. The content and qualification are the same as the standard course, delivered through simplified, easy-to-follow presentations, image-led workbooks, and a narrated exam with tutor support throughout.
Course Location
This course runs at our training centre in Rainham, Kent, ME8 8BE. We can also deliver this course at your workplace if suitable facilities are available – get in touch to discuss in-house options.
Who Should Attend
This course is for anyone about to work, or who has just started work, in the construction industry, who has a learning difficulty and/or disability, or for whom English is not a first language, and who would feel more comfortable learning in a supportive, understanding environment.
Course Content
The course covers employee responsibilities for looking after themselves and others, the need to prevent accidents, an understanding of health and safety law, how each role fits into the control and management of a site, the need for risk assessments and method statements, the importance of performing work safely and asking for advice when unsure, and the need to report unsafe acts to prevent accidents or recurrence. It's an ideal foundation for those working towards an industry accreditation card, helping prepare for the CITB Health & Safety Test, with the Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) a natural next step.
Course Duration
This is a one-day course, running from 08:30 to 17:00.
Assessment
Assessment is by a 30-minute, 25-question multiple-choice examination at the end of the course, narrated by the tutor, alongside interactive participation throughout the day.
Certification
Successful candidates receive the CITB Construction Site Operatives Safety Certificate, valid for five years, after which the course needs to be retaken to renew the qualification.
