Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

This 1-day course gives delegates the knowledge and practical skills to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations and take on the role of emergency first aider in the workplace. The qualification is based on the recommendations of the Resuscitation Council (UK) and Skills for Health Assessment Principles for First Aid Qualifications, and meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Course Location

This course runs at our training centre in Rainham, Kent, ME8 8BE. We also run courses from our Wandsworth, London training centre, and can travel to your workplace if suitable facilities are available.

Who Should Attend

This course is for anyone with a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide basic first aid in a range of emergency first aid situations.

Course Content

  • The roles and responsibilities of an emergency first aider
  • Assessing an incident
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty
  • CPR and AED use
  • Recovery position
  • Choking and seizures
  • Shock
  • Wounds and external bleeding
  • Minor injuries, including cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns and scalds

Course Duration

This is a 1-day course, running from 09:00 to 16:00.

Assessment

Candidates take part in all assessment activities, complete a test paper, and demonstrate competence in first aid procedures for managing an unresponsive casualty (recovery position and CPR), a casualty with external bleeding and shock, and a choking casualty. Assessment is conducted by trainers on the day.

Certification

On successful completion, delegates receive a Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate, valid for 3 years.

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of the course.

What's the difference between EFAW and FAW?

EFAW (1 day) covers emergency first aid for sudden illness or injury, while FAW (3 days) covers a wider range of conditions and is suited to workplaces with a higher risk profile. Your risk assessment will help determine which is required.
