Roofers working on solar installations, who open up roof coverings so that panels and mounting systems can be fitted, can use this pathway to have that work formally recognised. It also supports an application for the blue CSCS Skilled Worker card.

Delivery Method

NVQ, assessed in your workplace by a qualified assessor, with support given remotely or face to face. There is no classroom attendance.

Course Content

The access pathway concentrates on the roofing side of a solar install: safely removing and setting aside existing tiles or slates, preparing the roof for brackets and fixings, and working to the installer's requirements. Mandatory units on health, safety and welfare and productive working practices are included.

Assessment

• No written test or exam
• Professional discussion with your assessor
• Observation on site, or through video and photo evidence
• Evidence from your everyday work, such as RAMS, job logs and site diaries
• Witness statements from supervisors or colleagues

Certification

ProQual Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations (Construction), qualification number 601/7792/5, a nationally recognised qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework.

What is the difference between the Access and Protection/Handover pathways?

The Access pathway covers opening up the roof so solar panels and fixings can be installed. The Protection/Handover pathway covers making the roof weathertight around the installation and handing it back.
