The Roof Slater pathway is for experienced roofers who specialise in natural and man-made slate and already carry out advanced slating work. It suits employed and self-employed slaters, and employers qualifying their roofing teams.

Delivery Method

NVQ – evidence from real roofing jobs is uploaded to an electronic portfolio, with support remotely, face to face or a blend. No classroom sessions, day release or written exams.

Course Duration

Many learners complete in about 4 to 8 weeks depending on experience and evidence, or you can work at your own pace.

Course Content

This pathway concentrates on advanced slating: setting out and laying slates on complex roofs, forming details at valleys, hips and abutments, working safely at height and making sure the finished roof is weathertight and to specification.

Assessment

• An induction to review your experience and knowledge
• Evidence such as site photos, completed jobs, RAMS, site diaries and work logs
• Professional discussion and on-site observation
• Photo or video evidence and witness testimonies

Certification

ProQual Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations (qualification number 603/7178/X). The package includes a CITB test and CSCS card support, with your card application handled after certification.
