Who the Level 6 NVQ Site Management (Tunnelling) is for

This Level 6 NVQ is for people who already carry site management responsibilities in construction and want them formally recognised. It suits site managers, project managers, construction managers, contracts managers and assistant site managers, as well as senior supervisors stepping up into management.

The Tunnelling pathway is for managers of tunnelling and other underground projects, responsible for the operations and teams working below ground.

What the Level 6 NVQ Site Management (Tunnelling) involves

Delivery Method

NVQ – assessed in the workplace. There are no classroom sessions, no day release and no written exams. You build an electronic portfolio from the work you already do, uploading evidence from site, home or the office, with a qualified assessor supporting you remotely, face to face or a mix of both.

Course Duration

Many learners finish in 4–8 weeks, depending on their experience, availability and evidence. You can set your own pace, and a fast-track option is available.

Course Content

The qualification covers the management of a construction site as a whole: planning and programming the work, organising resources, managing health and safety, controlling quality and dealing with clients, designers and subcontractors. Your assessor agrees the unit combination with you at induction.

• An induction to review your experience and plan your portfolio
• Evidence such as programmes, site reports, resource plans, quality records, RAMS, health and safety records and correspondence

• Workplace observation, photos and video
• Witness testimonies from people you work with

Awarded by ProQual (qualification number 610/3809/X) – a nationally recognised Level 6 NVQ Diploma.

Prerequisites

There are no formal entry qualifications, but you must already be managing tunnelling or underground work. An induction at enrolment assesses your current experience and knowledge.

Is there an exam?

No. There are no written exams, classroom sessions or day release. You are assessed on evidence from your normal work, recorded in an electronic portfolio, together with professional discussion with your assessor.

How long does the NVQ take?

Many learners finish in 4–8 weeks. The time depends on your experience, your availability and the evidence you can provide, and you can work at your own pace.

Which CSCS card does it lead to?

It is a recognised route to the Black Manager CSCS card.

Do I need to be working in the role?

Can I complete it remotely?

Yes. You upload evidence from site, home or the office, and your assessor can support you remotely, face to face or through a mix of both.
