Ohio Property & Casualty Insurance Continuing Education

Ohio Department of Insurance approved online continuing education for property and casualty producers. Approved provider ID# 4139, with completions reported to the state within five days and no additional reporting fees.

Ohio CE Requirements

  • Producers: 24 hours every two years, of which at least 3 must be ethics.
  • Multiple lines: 24 hours total regardless of how many lines you hold, and courses may be taken in any approved line of authority.
  • Title producers: 10 hours. Surety bail producers: 14 hours.
  • No requirement at all for adjusters, title agents and service representatives, or for producers holding only a limited line of authority.

Renewal Is Not Automatic

Unlike several other states, Ohio requires you to apply for renewal — it does not happen by itself. All CE hours must be submitted to the state and approved before you can renew. Providers have up to 15 days to submit, so confirm your hours have posted on the NAIC site before applying rather than assuming.

Licences expire on the last day of your birth month every two years, based on the date first issued.

Flood Training

Producers selling National Flood Insurance Program policies must complete a one-time 3-hour flood course. New licensees must complete flood training before their first CE compliance date, not merely before their first sale.

Carry-Over, Repeats and Exams

Up to 12 excess hours carry into the next period as general credits, so ethics must be completed afresh every term. A course may only be taken once per licensing period, though it can be retaken after renewal for the following one. Exams are closed-book at 70% to pass with unlimited retakes, and Ohio does not require a monitor — one of the more straightforward states in that respect.

Keep your completion certificates for at least three years in case of audit.

Non-Residents

Non-resident producers in compliance with their home state's CE requirements are considered compliant in Ohio. However, non-residents from states with no long-term care or annuity CE requirement must complete those specific courses in Ohio regardless.
