Pennsylvania Life & Health Insurance Continuing Education
Pennsylvania Insurance Department approved online continuing education for resident life, health and annuity producers. All courses are PID-approved (Provider ID# 109696), reported to the Department directly, and completed entirely online.
Pennsylvania CE Requirements
- All resident producers, title agents and public adjusters: 24 hours of approved CE every two-year biennium.
- Ethics — new since April 2025: 3 hours of approved ethics CE is now mandatory for all licensees.
- Carry-over: up to 24 excess hours may be carried into the next renewal period.
- Repeats: a course cannot be repeated within the same renewal period, though it may be retaken for a later one.
The April 2025 Rule Change
Pennsylvania introduced mandatory subject requirements on 29 April 2025. Licensed before that date, you must complete the ethics requirement by 29 April 2026 or by the end of your current licence period, whichever is later. Licensed on or after that date, it must be done by the end of your first licence period. Adjuster licences are not subject to the updated requirements.
Exam Rules — Read This One
Pennsylvania is stricter than most states. CE exams are closed-book, and self-study or online exams must be monitored by an unbiased third party. Family members, friends, supervisors and colleagues cannot act as monitor. The monitor must complete a Declaration of Compliance, and failure to submit it disqualifies your result. Pass mark is 70% with unlimited retakes.
Annuity and Long-Term Care Training
- Annuities: a one-time 4-hour annuity best interest course is required before selling annuity products.
- Long-term care: a one-time 8-hour training course, then 4 hours of ongoing LTC CE every subsequent biennium.
- LTC Partnership: one hour of the initial 8-hour course must cover Medicaid information specific to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Renewal, Fees and Reporting
Licences expire on the last day of your birth month, biennially, based on your original licensing year. Renewal opens 60 days before expiry and the producer renewal fee is $55. Failure to renew results in suspension, though reinstatement within 12 months is possible with a late penalty.
Credits must be reported within 10 days of completion, and the state applies a $5.00 per course reporting fee automatically. Keep your completion certificates for six years. Completing CE at least 30 days before expiry is recommended.
