  • Roles and responsibilities.
  • Dumper controls and terminology.
  • Regulations and legislation.
  • Undertake all pre-use inspection checks.
  • Operating over rough, undulating ground, steep inclines and level surfaces – loaded and unloaded.
  • Actions required for hazards, underground and overhead services.
  • Position to receive loads.
  • Complying with loading procedures.
  • Load integrity and security.
  • Transfer and discharge loads into trenches and over edges.
  • Manoeuvre in confined spaces.
  • Shut down procedures.

This CPCS A31 Ride on Roller training course is for Dumper Operators who want to take a CPCS test to gain their Red Trained Operator Card.

A31 Ride on Roller Course Details

  • Roles and responsibilities.
  • Regulations and legislation.
  • Undertake all pre-use inspection checks.
  • Configure and set for compacting duties.
  • Travel over rough, undulating ground, substantial inclines and level surfaces.
  • Manoeuvre in confined spaces.
  • Actions required for hazards, underground and overhead services.
  • Compact loose granular materials to specification.
  • Compact in straight lines and around radii.
  • Compact supported and unsupported edges.
  • Explain the principles, requirements and techniques of good compaction.

Testing and Further Courses

Theory Test – a verbal test with one to one questions with the tester.

Practical Test – a test including:

  • Pre-start and running checks.
  • Travel to the work passing through a restriction.
  • Drive up and down an incline and on uneven ground.
  • Prepare an exclusion zone and set the Ride on Roller for work.
  • Compact the straight run.
  • Compact the radius.
  • Carry out the shutdown and securing procedures.

You will need to undertake a Health & Safety test within 2 years.

Next step – CPCS blue competence card and NVQ Level 2.

What is Awarded After Completion of the Course?

Once the course has been completed candidates will be eligible to receive a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.
