What is the CITB SEATS Course?

The Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme (SEATS) is the one-day CITB Site Safety Plus course on environmental management for construction sites. It covers the legislation, best practice and sustainability principles that apply to site work, and shows delegates how to recognise, control and reduce the environmental impact of construction activities. Build UK endorses the course.

Who is the CITB SEATS Course Suitable For?

Site managers, supervisors, foremen, agents and other staff with management or supervisory responsibilities, together with those in design or purchasing roles who influence environmental performance on site. A good standard of English and a valid form of photo ID are required.

What's Included in the SEATS Course?

One day of live instructor-led training over Zoom, with the CITB mandatory publication Construction site safety – Es: Environment (GE700Es) supplied as an eBook.

Delivery Method

Live online via Zoom, 08:00 to 16:00. Delegates need a laptop or PC with webcam, microphone and speakers, a stable connection and a quiet space for the day. A classroom version also runs at the provider's Warwickshire centre.

Course Content

• Understanding the environment – why environmental management matters in construction, impact and sustainability awareness
• Environmental management systems – basic principles of an EMS and site procedures for compliance
• Resource and waste management – site waste, efficient use of energy and resources, pollution prevention and water management
• Responsible site practices – being a responsible contractor and good neighbour, statutory nuisance, communications and stakeholder engagement, archaeology and heritage

Assessment / Examination

A 30-minute exam of 25 questions (22 multiple choice and three multiple response). Delegates must score 24 out of 30 (80%) to pass.

Certification

Successful delegates receive the CITB Site Safety Plus SEATS certificate as a PDF, valid for five years. The course must be retaken before expiry to remain certified.

After completing the course, learners can order their certificate directly from the provider.

Once the courses have been completed, a confirmation of results can be saved or printed as evidence. This can then be kept on record as evidence of suitable training.
