What is the CITB SSSTS Refresher?

The one-day SSSTS Refresher (SSSTS-R) renews an in-date Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme certificate for a further five years. It revisits the key topics of the full two-day course and updates supervisors on changes to legislation, standards and site practice since they last trained. Build UK and the UK Contractors Group endorse the refresher as the renewal route for construction supervisors.

Who is the SSSTS Refresher Suitable For?

Supervisors who passed the two-day SSSTS, or a previous SSSTS Refresher, within the last five years and can show an in-date certificate. The refresher must be taken before the certificate expires – once lapsed, the full course must be retaken. Photo ID and a good standard of English are required.

What's Included in the SSSTS Refresher?

One day of live instructor-led training over Zoom, with the CITB mandatory publications provided as eBooks.

Delivery Method

Live online via Zoom. Delegates need a laptop or PC with webcam, microphone and speakers, a stable connection and a quiet space for the day.

Course Content

• Health, safety and legal responsibilities – law updates, CDM 2015, management systems, risk assessments and method statements, statutory inspections and reporting
• Workforce welfare and hazards – first aid, hazardous substances, asbestos, dust, fumes, noise, vibration and manual handling
• Site set-up and equipment – security, fire safety, electricity, plant and lifting operations
• Working at height, excavations, underground and overhead services, confined spaces and temporary works
• Environmental awareness – pollution, waste and minimising site nuisance

Assessment / Examination

A compulsory 30-minute exam of 25 questions (22 multiple choice and three short written answers) with a pass mark of 80%. Four safety-critical questions must all be answered correctly. The GE706 publication may be used for the last ten minutes.

Certification

On success, the CITB Site Safety Plus SSSTS certificate is renewed for five years and issued as a PDF.
