What is the CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Course?

A two-day CITB course for people designated as the site Temporary Works Coordinator. It gives delegates a thorough knowledge of what the role entails, the processes involved and the roles of others who design and supervise temporary works – and gives senior management confidence that temporary works are being properly controlled.

A Temporary Works Coordinator makes sure temporary structures and systems – scaffolding, excavations, formwork, supports and similar – are properly planned, checked and coordinated before work starts. The role is about organising and overseeing rather than physically doing the work: bringing everyone together so plans are understood, making sure drawings, designs and methods are checked and signed off, keeping communication clear between engineers, supervisors and site teams, checking structures are erected and used as intended, keeping paperwork in order and spotting risks early.

Who is the Temporary Works Coordinator Course Suitable For?

People on site with responsibility for managing all forms of temporary works – typically supervisors, site managers and engineers with existing site experience who are stepping into more responsibility. It suits those who already have knowledge of temporary works or are acting as a non-certified Temporary Works Coordinator. It is not an entry-level course.

What's Included in the Temporary Works Coordinator Course?

Two days of tutor-led classroom training and the end-of-course multiple-choice paper.

Classroom, starting at 8am, at the provider's training centre at Kingsley Place, Mote Road, Maidstone, Kent.

Course Content

The course highlights the importance of the four Cs of risk management – communication, coordination, cooperation and competency. On completion delegates will:

• Understand the need for and duties of a Temporary Works Coordinator
• Understand the role of others
• Have a detailed knowledge and understanding of BS 5975 and the CDM Regulations 2015 in respect of the role

Assessment / Examination

Each delegate sits a multiple-choice question paper at the end of day two.

Certification

The certificate is valid for five years. Delegates need to retake the course before the expiry date to stay certified.
