Who the Level 2 Trowel Occupations NVQ is for

Bricklayers, blocklayers and renderers who already work with a trowel on site can use this NVQ to get their skills formally recognised. It supports an application for the blue CSCS Skilled Worker card and helps employers show their teams are qualified and compliant.

What the bricklaying NVQ covers

Delivery Method

NVQ, assessed in your workplace by a qualified assessor, with support given remotely or face to face. There is no classroom attendance.

Course Content

Your assessor looks at real trowel work, including setting out, building brick and block masonry, forming openings, and applying finishes to internal and external walls. You also show you follow site health and safety procedures and productive working practices.

Assessment

• No written test or exam
• Professional discussion with your assessor
• Observation on site, or through video and photo evidence
• Evidence from your everyday work, such as RAMS, job logs and site diaries
• Witness statements from supervisors or colleagues

Certification

ProQual Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations (Construction), qualification number 601/6066/4, a nationally recognised qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework.

There is no fixed length. Bricklayers with evidence ready can fast-track; others can take it at their own pace.

Which CSCS card does it lead to?

Completing the qualification lets you apply for the blue CSCS Skilled Worker card.

For short courses a completion certificate is available at the end of the course. You can screenshot this or print it out to confirm completion of the training.
