Course Content
NG1 – Management of Health and Safety
- Why health and safety matters and the moral, legal and financial reasons for managing it
- How health and safety management systems work, including policy and organising for safety
- Building a positive safety culture and improving safety behaviours
- Risk assessment and the general principles of controlling risk
- Investigating and recording accidents and incidents, and monitoring safety performance
NG2 – Controlling Workplace Hazards
- Movement of people and vehicles around the workplace
- Manual and mechanical handling activities
- Work equipment hazards and controls
- Electrical safety
- Fire safety and emergency arrangements
- Chemical and biological agents
- Physical and psychological health hazards
The course also includes preparation for the NG2 practical risk assessment project, a workplace-based assessment that delegates complete and submit after the course.
Course Duration
This course runs over two separate teaching weeks, followed by the NEBOSH Open Book Exam, which delegates complete within a 24-hour window after the final week.
Assessment
Delegates sit an open book exam covering both NG1 and NG2, and complete a separate practical risk assessment assignment based on a real workplace.
Certification
Successful candidates receive the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, a qualification recognised by employers across the UK and internationally, and which supports progression to Technician membership (TechIOSH) of IOSH.
