What is the CITB SMSTS Refresher?
The two-day SMSTS Refresher (SMSTS-R) renews an in-date Site Management Safety Training Scheme certificate for a further five years. It revisits the core principles of the full course and brings managers up to date with changes in legislation, Approved Codes of Practice and industry guidance that have arrived since they last trained. Build UK endorses the refresher as the standard renewal route for construction site managers.
Who is the SMSTS Refresher Suitable For?
Anyone who holds a valid SMSTS or SMSTS Refresher certificate issued within the last five years. The refresher must be completed before the existing certificate expires – once it has lapsed the full five-day SMSTS course has to be retaken. Proof of the in-date certificate, photo ID and a good standard of English are required.
What's Included in the SMSTS Refresher?
Two days of live instructor-led training over Zoom, with the CITB mandatory publications provided as eBooks.

Live online via Zoom, 08:30 to 16:30 on both days. A laptop or PC with webcam, microphone and speakers, a stable connection and a quiet space are needed for the whole course.
