The Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is an industry recognised course providing companies who need to meet the ever increasing demand for evidence of health and safety compliance with all the relevant knowledge to meet today’s legislative demands. This course is for you if you’re considering, or already have, responsibilities for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff e.g. site manager.

The 5 day SMSTS course covers all relevant legislation affecting safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture within the workforce.

The course includes:

  • how to implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation affecting your daily work
  • how to implement new guidance and industry best practice
  • what your duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment are.

    Assessment & Certification

    You will undergo a short theory test at the end of the course. On successful completion of the course, you will receive a CITB industry recognised certificate which is valid for 5 years.

    Please note to remain certified in this area, a SMSTS Refresher (SMSTS-R) course must be undertaken before the 5 year certification expires or a full course will need to completed again.

    Prerequisites

    There are no formal qualifications required to attend the SMSTS course but we do recommend working knowledge within the construction industry.
