The Abrasive Wheels Awareness course provides the knowledge and understanding needed to safely use and handle abrasive wheels at work. It suits anyone who uses, changes or works in close proximity to abrasive wheel equipment.

The course covers the hazards associated with abrasive wheels, including breakage, incorrect mounting and unsafe use. Learners develop an understanding of how to select the correct wheel for the task, inspect equipment before use and ensure it is fitted correctly.

Emphasis is placed on safe working practices, proper storage and handling, and following manufacturer guidance and legal requirements, including the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER).

Delivery Method

Delivered at the Champion Training Solutions training centre, Thorverton Road, Marsh Barton, Exeter, EX2 8GN. This course can also be run in-house at your own premises.

• Pre-use inspections and equipment checks
• Mounting and dismounting of abrasive wheels
• Safe operating procedures
• Use of guards and safety devices
• Personal protective equipment requirements
• Managing risks from dust, noise, vibration and breakage
• Identifying defects and when to remove equipment from use
• Emergency procedures and incident response

Certification

Successful learners receive the Abrasive Wheels Awareness certificate.
