What is the CITB SSSTS Course?
The CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) is the two-day Site Safety Plus course for people who have, or are about to move into, a supervisory role in construction or civil engineering. It gives supervisors a strong knowledge of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues and of their legal responsibilities, and is mandatory for anyone with supervisory responsibilities on Build UK sites.
Who is the SSSTS Course Suitable For?
Current supervisors and those about to step up, including first line managers, foremen, gangers and team leaders. Existing site managers, agents and others in managerial control should attend the five-day SMSTS course instead.
What's Included in the SSSTS Course?
Two days of practical, tutor-led training from a CITB-accredited provider, focused on knowledge supervisors can apply on site straight away, plus assessed exercises and the CITB examination.
Delivery Method
Classroom, starting at 8.30am, at the provider's training centre at Kingsley Place, Mote Road, Maidstone, Kent.

Course Content
- Health and safety law and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
- Environmental awareness, pollution and waste management
- Hazardous substances and occupational health
- Accident prevention and control
- Approved codes of practice, guidance notes and other regulations
- Work at height
- Demolition, noise and vibration
- Fire prevention and control
- Plant and equipment, and electricity on sites
- Managing contractors
- Confined spaces
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course delegates will understand how health and safety law is structured and applies to supervisors, how the supervisory role fits into the management structure, how to carry out risk assessments and why method statements are needed, how to deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and task briefings, and how to monitor site activities and intervene promptly when bad practice is identified.
Assessment / Examination
Exercises and individual participation are assessed throughout, and delegates sit the CITB multiple-choice paper on day two.
Certification
Successful delegates receive a CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme certificate, valid for five years and renewed by taking the one-day SSSTS Refresher before it expires.
